In a recent article at India.com, It has mentioned that a Hyderabad-based Biotech Lab called Bharat Biotech International Limited has developed two candidate vaccines from an imported live Zika virus. However, the trials and tests on animals and humans for Zika Vaccine haven’t begun yet.
Among a worldwide outbreak alarming about the Zika Virus, the world’s first vaccine to fight with the Zika Fear has been developed in a biotech lab in India. Zika Virus is declared as a global health emergency by the World Health Organization and almost all Worlds’ popular and famous biotech scientists are researching in the dark for a quick solution to fight with this infection. Bharat Biotech International Limited a Hyderabad-based Biotech firm, has announced that they have made a giant leap ahead of all of them and have successfully developed the Zika vaccine to fight with this deadly virus.
Speaking to NDTV, the chairman and MD of the company, Dr. Krishna Ella said, “On Zika Virus, we are possibly the first company in the world who has already developed and tested Zika vaccine about nine months ago.” The Bharat Biotech firm has developed two candidate vaccines, using a live imported Zika virus. However, the final test of this vaccine on living things hasn’t begun yet.
According to the NDTV Reports, it might take a long time to complete the final test of Zika Vaccine. However, Dr. Ella said while speaking to media that he has communicated with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to help with the trials and testing of this vaccine.
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, director general of ICMR has confirmed this news and said to NDTV “We have just been informed about the Zika vaccine candidate that Bharat Biotech has. We will examine it from the scientific point of view and see the feasibility of taking it forward. It is a good example of a Make in India product.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Ella says that if all trails and testing goes well, then his firm are capable enough to produce 1 million vaccine doses in four months. The company required the direct involvement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accelerate the vaccine’s development and distribution process by cutting the red tape of regulatory clearances. The Zika Vaccine can help affected countries such as Brazil and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) group and pave the way for what he called “Vaccine Diplomacy.”
According to reports, Experts have lauded Bharat Biotech’s foresight in working on a vaccine so far ahead on a neglected disease that has now taken global epidemic proportions.
